UPDATE: Funnel cloud advisory ended in Grande Prairie area

UPDATE: The special weather advisory has been lifted for all affected areas.

A special weather advisory has been issued for the Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge and Valleyview areas as conditions are favourable for the creation of funnel clouds Wednesday.

“These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms,” says the weather office.

“This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground. However, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.”

The watch is also in effect for the Peace River, High Prairie, Fairview and Manning areas.
