COVID-19 UPDATE

New COVID-19 cases reported in City and County of Grande Prairie over weekend

There were three new cases of COVID-19 identified in the City of Grande Prairie over the last 72 hours, while two new cases have popped up in the County.

This comes as the province saw a jump of 230 between Friday and Sunday (54 for July 10, 96 for July 11 and 80 for July 12). There are now 676 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta, while 7,989 people are considered recovered.

New cases were also identified in the MD of Fairview area, Clear Hills County, County of Northern Lights and Mackenzie County over the weekend. There was one more death over the last 72 hours, coming in the Mackenzie County area. The fatality was the 161st attributed to COVID-19 in Alberta and the first in the area that includes High Level and La Crete.

An updated total for Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day July 12 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 20 cases (Three active, 17 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Ten cases (Three active, seven recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: One case (Recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 72 cases (62 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 47 cases (Three active, 39 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Six cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: One case (Active)
  • Clear Hills County: 13 cases (Four active, nine recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: Three cases (All active)
  • Mackenzie County: 57 cases (14 active, 42 recovered, one death)

At this time there are 45 people in hospital with the virus in Alberta, while ten are in ICU. One person from Northern Alberta is in hospital at this time.

There have now been 540,102 tests processed by the provincial lab as of the end of day July 12. A total of 27,380 people from the North Zone have been tested.
