Stojan’s Powersports and Marine donated a new 2020 Can-Am Defender PRO to the Peace Area Riding for the Disabled (PARDS) Therapeutic Centre on Tuesday.

The donation was in partnership with Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP). Stojan’s Powersports and Marine is an authorized BRP dealer.

BRP created a program called Can-Am for a Cause, which allowed BRP dealers to apply on behalf of their community for one of six Defenders. Those applying for the program had to detail why they felt they were worthy of receiving the machine and how it would be beneficial to them.

Stojan’s chose PARDS Therapeutic Centre, and submitted its application for one of the vehicles last year. Stojan’s sent the application supporting PARDS to BRP head office, where it was chosen as one of six winners across the country.

“When we found out we were chosen, it was amazing,” said PARDS Executive Director Jennifer Douglas. “We don’t typically get new pieces of equipment. To have this type of machine really builds up our efficiency.”

Jerry Stojan, a co-owner with Stojan’s Powersports and Marine, said PARDS was an ideal candidate for one of the Defenders.

“This machine is perfect for their application and BRP saw that. It’s an excellent society and horses help a lot of people, so it’s really good (for) the community.”

With the addition of the new piece of machinery, Douglas says that this will help cut down chore times and make jobs around the ranch more efficient.

“Efficiency is a keyword here, anything that we can do in a shorter amount of time gets us back into the arena.

“Caring for our horses is obviously very important. Getting them fed efficiently, and making sure that our fencing is keeping everyone on the property and safe, and this machine is going to help everyone do that.”

Douglas mentioned that the new equipment will also help when it comes time to repair and groom trails.
