Fire advisory lifted in Grande Prairie Forest Area

Jul 15, 2020 | 3:16 PM

As of July 14, Alberta Wildfire says they have lifted its fire advisory in the Forest Protection Area for the Grande Prairie region.

The reason for the change is that fire danger in the Grande Prairie Forest Area remains low.

Since March 1, there have been 29 wildfires in the Grande Prairie Forest Area, which have burned more than 19 hectares of land in the region. As of Wednesday afternoon, according to the Alberta wildfire status map, there are no fires burning in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

Alberta Wildfire is however reminding residents in the area to keep an eye on fire conditions in the region.

It says that on windy days to stay on alert for wildfires and reduce the risk of starting one, as grasses and other fine fuels may become dry in the area and can ignite quickly under windy conditions.

Those operating off-highway vehicles are also asked to use caution, clear your hot spots and carry a collapsible bucket and shovel.

Sparks from rocks hitting heavy machinery, dragging chains and welding operations are all high-risk activities and could result in a fire.

There are currently four wildfires burning across the province, all of which are under control.

If you spot a wildfire in the area you are asked to call 310-FIRE.
