Alberta adds over 100 new cases of COVID-19 for first time since May

New cases of COVID-19 continued to climb in Alberta Thursday, as there were 120 new cases confirmed in the province as of the end of day July 15.

Case numbers in the Grande Prairie area held at four active in the City of Grande Prairie, while there remains six active in the County. Three new cases were identified in the Mackenzie County area, bringing its total to 23.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day July 15 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 21 cases (Four active, 17 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 13 cases (Six active, seven recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: One case (Recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 72 cases (62 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 47 cases (Three active, 39 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Six cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: One case (Active)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: One case (Active)
  • Clear Hills County: 16 cases (Six active, ten recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: Three cases (All active)
  • Mackenzie County: 69 cases (23 active, 45 recovered, one death)

The triple digit rise in cases marks the first time since May 2 that the province saw over 100 new cases over a 24-hour period. There are now 807 active cases in the province, 103 more than there were on Wednesday. 8,142 cases are considered recovered.

There were two more deaths reported over the last 24 hours, bringing the number of fatalities in Alberta to 165.

Hospitalizations increased to 69 as of the end of day July 15, eight of those people are in an ICU.

Over 8,200 tests were processed over the last 24 hours, bringing the number of tests completed during the pandemic to 560,493.
