Severe thunderstorm watch in place for Grande Prairie area

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge and Valleyview area Tuesday afternoon.

The weather office says conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms to develop this afternoon, moving eastward through the evening, which could possibly produce strong winds, large hail and heavy rain.

“Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches,” says the weather office. “Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”

The watch is also in place for the Hinton-Grande Cache area, as well as the Fox Creek-Whitecourt-Edson-Swan Hills.
