EDMONTON- The Alberta Medical Association says it has taken the “extraordinary step” of calling for a confidence vote by doctors on Health Minister Tyler Shandro.
It’s the latest move in a bitter dispute over billing changes introduced by the province’s United Conservative government.
AMA president Doctor Christine Molnar says doctors have experienced months of anxiety due to the “toxic environment” created by Shandro — combined with shrinking practice revenue and the COVID-19 crisis.
She says the AMA is seeking input in a vote that started on Tuesday and ending next Tuesday on whether to continue efforts to negotiate with the minister or move on to the premier.
