Jul 22, 2020 | 10:19 AM

Grande Prairie’s Tenille Townes will be looking to best her 2019 performance at this year’s Canadian Country Music Association awards.

After taking home the hardware in all four categories she was nominated in last year, including Single and Female Artist of the Year, Townes is nominated in six categories this year, which is the most out of any nominee for the 2020 edition of the awards. The closest to Townes in terms of nominations is Dean Brody and Brett Kissel, who have each been nominated for five awards.

Townes is nominated in the following categories:

  • Fan’s choice (A link to vote can be found here)
  • Entertainer of the year
  • Female artist of the year
  • Songwriter of the year
  • Interactive Artist of the year
  • Video of the year

This continues a big year for Townes, who last month released her debut, full length album with Columbia Nashville called the Lemonade Stand. Meanwhile, just yesterday, Townes was also featured on the long time NBC morning show “Today”.

Other Peace Country nominees include both High Valley and Aaron Goodvin.

For La Crete’s Brad and Curtis Rempel, High Valley is nominated for Group or Duo of the year (which they last won in 2016), and for the first time for Single of the Year, for their song Single Man. Brad is also nominated for Songwriter of the Year, for I Do Too by The Reklaws.

Goodvin, who hails from Spirit River, is also nominated this year for Interactive artist of the Year where he will compete with Townes for the title. he will also go up again Townes and Brad Rempel for Songwriter of the Year, for his single Good Ol’ Bad Days.

That means three of the five nominations for Songwriter of the Year will feature Peace Country talent, which lately has been an award dominated by the region. Townes claimed the 2019 award for Somebody’s Daughter, while Goodvin claimed the award in 2018 for his single Lonely Drum.

The CCMA Awards will air on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. on Global.
