Albertans able to view COVID-19 test results online

Albertans will be able to get their COVID-19 test results a little bit sooner, as the province’s chief medical officer of health says those results can now be viewed online.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw said during her COVID-19 update on Monday that she has heard from many Albertans who wanted to receive their results quicker. She says those results can be seen faster, along with other health information, through Alberta Health’s online portal called My Health Records.

“This portal gives you a secure place to see your health information, including immunization records, prescribed medications and lab test results, including COVID-19 test results.

“This is the fastest way to get your results, as you can see them online as soon as they are available.”

Testing capacity and demand has increased in recent weeks, as the province completed nearly 28,000 tests between Friday and Sunday, and over 651,000 tests since March. With that demand, most results were returned within five to seven days via Health Link, with a priority put on those that had tested positive.

“I encourage Albertans to sign up for a free My Health Records account.”

The province has also created a new risk assessment tool to help anyone identify their level of risk for severe outcomes and guide protection decisions. The tool can be found on the province’s COVID-19 website.

“This is something we have been asked for by Albertans who want to know which medical conditions are linked to the highest risk of severe outcomes,” said Hinshaw.

“For everyone, independent of risk, if you are sick or concerned about being exposed, please get tested.”
