Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Peace River area

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the area that encompasses Peace River.

The weather authority says atmospheric conditions are favourable in northern Alberta for the development of a thunderstorm, which may also bring strong gusts of wind, damaging hail, and heavy rains.

Very large hail can cause damage to property, such as denting cars and breaking windows, and can also pose a risk of seriously injuring a person.

Environment Canada says thunderstorms are expected to develop in both northern Alberta and southern Northwest Territories in the afternoon, before moving eastwards as the day progresses.
