Blue-green algae advisory for Bear Lake

Jul 30, 2020 | 6:14 PM

A blue-green algae bloom advisory has been issued for Bear Lake.

Visitors and residents are advised to avoid all contact with the blooms.

Do not swim or allow your pets to swim in any areas where blue-green algae is visible as it could be deadly for pets.

People should also avoid feeding whole fish or fish trimmings from the lake to pets, along with considering limiting human consumption of whole fish and fish trimmings from the lake.

Visitors and residents are reminded to never drink or cook with water from Bear Lake.

Weather and wind conditions can cause algae blooms to move from one location to another.

Areas of Bear Lake in which the blue-green algae bloom is not visible can still be used for recreational purposes, while the health advisory is in place.

The advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
