HERITAGE DAY

COVID-19 concerns leads to “different look” for Heritage Day celebrations in Grande Prairie

Aug 2, 2020 | 11:26 AM

Heritage Day activities are set for Monday at Muskoseepi Park and the Heritage Village.

Recreation Programming and Events Supervisor with the city Hayley Kramps admits this year’s Heritage Day activities will have a much different look.

“With social distancing protocol, we will be limiting the number of people in the village, and participants are asked to register early for the tours. Once in the village, they will watch a bunch of different skits put on by a local theatre group, which we are really excited about. They will be at each house inside of the village and it will be really entertaining to see. “

The heritage tours go every hour beginning at noon but space will be limited to 50 people per each tour.

You can register by clicking on the heritage day link on the city’s website.

There will also be food trucks, with each one having a special heritage day-only dish.

And local artists will be painting tapestries between 1-3 near the amphitheatre.

Those tapestries will eventually be put on display inside of the Ernie Radbourne pavillion.

Kramps adds residents can also take part in a scavenger hunt leading up to Monday’s events.

“It is a partnership between the city of Grande Prairie and the Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association. We have worked together to put these questions into our app. And there are a number of questions, all of which are monitored by points. And once you complete them all, you can be entered to win a grand prize.”

Heritage Day activities go from noon to 6 on Monday.
