Sidewalk improvements coming to Highland Park and Smith neighbourhoods

Aug 5, 2020 | 3:16 PM

The City of Grande Prairie will be continuing it’s sidewalk improvement program in both the Highland Park and Smith neighbourhoods over the next two weeks.

Starting on August 6 in the Highland Park neighbourhood, crews will begin removing and replacing the existing sidewalk on the north side of 91A Avenue between 97 Street and 96A Street with a new 1.5 metre sidewalk.

Beginning next week, crews will start to remove and replace the outside sidewalk of the p-loop on 98 Avenue east of 93 Street in the Smith neighborhood. The sidewalk on the south of 98 Avenue at the entrance of the p-loop will be removed and not replaced.

Once the work on the p-loop is completed, the city will then replace the sidewalk on the east side of 93 Street between 100 Avenue and Juno Crossing.

A new stretch of sidewalk will then be constructed on:

  • The east side of 93 Street between Juno Crossing and 93 Avenue
  • The north side of 93 Avenue between 93 Street and 92A Street
  • The east side of 92A Street between 93 Avenue and 92 Avenue.

As a result of the construction, local traffic will be maintained throughout the duration of the installation. Some parking on the road will be impacted as equipment and construction materials are in the areas.

The city is asking residents in those neighbourhoods to watch for workers and pay attention to all posted construction signage.

Construction on the projects is scheduled to be completed in September.
