Alberta adds 56 new COVID-19 cases Thursday

Alberta once again added less than 100 new cases of COVID-19, as there were no new cases of identified in the Grande Prairie area.

The province added 56 cases for August 6, the sixth day in a row it added under 100 new cases. There are now 1,107 active cases in Alberta, while 9,984 people have recovered.

In the Grande Prairie area for Thursday’s update, there was one recovery in the City while the County also had a recovery.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day Wednesday, August 6 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 38 cases (Nine active, 29 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 23 cases (Three active, 20 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Eight cases (Three active, five recovered)
  • Birch Hills County: Two cases (Both recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: Three cases (Two active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 73 cases (63 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 47 cases (42 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: Two Cases (Both recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 24 cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 170 cases (54 active, 114 recovered, two deaths)

There were two more deaths in Alberta attributed to COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the province’s death toll to 205.

There are 76 people in hospital across the province with COVID-19, with 19 of those individuals in ICU. In the North Zone, nine people are hospitalized with three of those patients in intensive care.

There were just under 8,000 tests processed in Alberta on Wednesday, bringing the number of tests completed to 735,322 since March in the province. Those tests have been performed on 607,363 people, which Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, points out to be about one in seven people in Alberta.

There have been 51,061 people from Northern Alberta tested since March, an increase of 199 from the day prior.
