Crop quality down in most recent Alberta Agriculture crop report

The July 28 crop report from Alberta Agriculture says 60.8 per cent of the crop in the Peace is rated in good to excellent condition.

That is down from the 65.2 per cent reported in the July 14 report and below the five-year average of 63.7 per cent.

The good to excellent rating by crop is 64.7 per cent for spring wheat, 63.2 per cent for oats, 60.5 per cent for canola, 57.4 per cent for dry peas and 53.1 per cent for barley.

The report also says half of the first cut haying was finished as of that date. Yields were rated 63 per cent good and excellent and were estimated at 1.7 tons per acre.
