Grande Prairie sees three new COVID-19 cases, three recoveries over weekend

There were three new cases of COVID-19 identified in the City of Grande Prairie over the weekend, while there were also three more recovered cases to keep the active case total at 11.

In Alberta, there were 257 new cases confirmed over the weekend (108 on August 7, 101 on August 8 and 48 on August 9). There are now 1,090 active cases of COVID-19, while 10,384 people have recovered. Five more Albertans have died from COVID-19, including one more in the Mackenzie County area, bringing the number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 to 213.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day August 9 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 43 cases (11 active, 32 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 23 cases (Three active, 20 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Eight cases (Three active, five recovered)
  • Birch Hills County: Two cases (Both recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: Three cases (Two active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 73 cases (63 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 47 cases (One active, 41 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: Two Cases (Both recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 24 cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 199 cases (54 active, 141 recovered, four deaths)

Hospitalizations sit at 66 for the end of the day Sunday, with 14 of those admitted to an ICU. In the North Zone, five people are in hospital while two of those individuals are in an ICU.

There were more than 26,000 tests processed at the provincial lab between Friday and Sunday, bringing the total to 770,266. A total of 52,904 people from the North Zone have been tested, an increase of 1,433 since Thursday.
