COVID-19 fatality recorded in M.D. of Greenview area

The M.D. of Greenview area has recorded its first fatality attributed to COVID-19, while province-wide there were a total of three deaths attributed to the disease for August 10.

Tom McMillan with Alberta Health says the individual from the Greenview area was a female in her 80’s, and that the case is not linked to a continuing care facility. The death is the 21st reported in Northern Alberta from COVID-19.

There were a total of 85 new cases confirmed in Alberta for August 10. Active cases dropped to 1,004 as of Monday as there were 168 more cases switched to recovered in the province, moving to a total of 10,552. A total of 216 Albertans have died from COVID-19.

In the Grande Prairie area, there were two new cases identified in the County, moving that area to five active cases. No new cases were reported in the City of Grande Prairie.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day August 10 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 43 cases (11 active, 32 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 25 cases (Five active, 20 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Eight cases (One active, six recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Two cases (Both recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 73 cases (63 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 47 cases (One active, 41 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: Two Cases (Both recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 25 cases (One active, 24 recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: Seven cases (Two active, five recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 204 cases (57 active, 143 recovered, four deaths)

Hospitalizations dropped to 62 in the province for August 10, with 14 of those individuals in intensive care. In the North Zone, five people are in hospital with two in an ICU.

Just over 7,000 tests were processed at the provincial lab on Monday. There have now been 777,325 tests performed on 636,319 Albertans. A total of 53,652 people from Northern Alberta have been tested, an increase of 748 from the day prior.
