Investigation underway into suspicious Gift Lake house fire

An investigation has been launched into a residential fire in the Gift Lake Metis Settlement that left a house burned to its foundation.

At 1:16 a.m. on August 12, 2020, the RCMP were called to assist in a residential fire that had fully engulfed the house.

No one was in the residence at the time of the fire, and there were no reported injuries.

Evidence discovered at the scene by the Gift Lake Fire Department led to a call for the Fire Commissioner Office to launch an investigation. The cause of the fire has since been deemed suspicious, and the RCMP is now investigating.

Anyone with information on the fire, or who may have seen anything suspicious in the area, is asked to contact the High Prairie RCMP at 780-532-3370.
