Drivers along 116 Street can expect delays starting Friday, as City of Grande Prairie crews begin the full reconstruction of both southbound lanes between 84 and 97 Avenue.

Southbound traffic will be rerouted to one of the northbound lanes during that time, with the City estimating a completion date in mid-September.

The City says the walking path on the west side of 116 Street can still be accessed during construction, but some detours may occur.

Meantime, the City will also be starting full-depth reclamation and road overlays on Monday at a few locations.

Crews will begin work on the following areas on August 17:

  • 88C Street between 104 and 112 Avenue
  • Royal Oaks Drive between 105 and 103B Street
  • 120 Street between 100 and 101 Avenue
  • 101 Avenue between 120 and 116 Street
  • 78 Avenue from west end of roadway to 108A Street
  • 108A Street between 78 and 79 Avenue
  • 79 Avenue from 108 Street to 108A Street

The above roads will see reduced speed limits, however the City does say traffic is expected to be maintained.

Drivers are asked to be cautious when driving through construction zones and to obey all posted signage and flag persons.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of residents during construction.”

All of these projects fall within the $20.5 million the City has put into road improvement projects in 2020.
