City seeks volunteers for Community Knowledge Campus Advisory Committee

Aug 17, 2020 | 7:21 AM

The City of Grande Prairie is forming a Community Knowledge Campus Advisory Committee that will engage with the public and find ways to improve and enhance recreations and sporting opportunities in the community.

The 12 volunteer positions are open to the public, though there is a preference to have those interested in recreation and involved with user groups at the CKC to form the committee.

Angela Redding, the General Manager of the Community Knowledge Campus, says the goal of this committee will be to gather community input, work with the leadership team, and come up with ways to grow the Community Knowledge Campus.

“I think that it’s important to understand the interest of the community, and more so the people who have a focus in recreation or health and wellness, sports development, community development. So just intentionally seeking their feedback.”

The committee would gather input through public engagement, and report their findings back to Redding and the Community Services Committee. From there, if the findings show the need for particular improvements or enhancements, the report could be brought forward to City Council for further discussion.

The CKC Advisory Committee will also work with other committees and groups during the engagement process, and one of the members will be from the new Youth Advisory Committee, which Redding says is very exciting.

“Considering the youth demographic that attends the Community Knowledge Campus, I think they’ll have a lot of great input, and when we look at future growth within the community and what youth are interested in, I really am looking forward to hearing what they can share.”

The deadline to apply for the Community Knowledge Campus Advisory Committee is September 10, 2020, and applications can be found on the City of Grande Prairie’s website.
