Six new COVID-19 cases in City of Grande Prairie over weekend, 285 in Alberta

UPDATE: Though the province listed 177 new cases for August 14, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, clarified that 74 of the cases reported for Friday were already counted in the provincial database. The actual total number of new cases was 103 for that day and 285 from Friday to Sunday in Alberta.

Alberta added 285 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, while there were six new cases identified in the City of Grande Prairie.

There are now 17 active cases of COVID-19 in the Swan City as of Sunday. There were also two new cases added in the County of Grande Prairie, bringing its active case total to eight.

In Alberta, there were 103 new cases confirmed on August 14 (with 10,886 tests processed on that day), 86 on August 15 (8,663 tests processed) and 96 on August 16 (8,691 tests processed). There are now 1,132 active cases in the province, while 11,056 people have recovered.

Updated case numbers among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day August 16 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 54 cases (17 active, 37 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 31 cases (Eight active, 23 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Eight cases (Seven recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Three cases (One active, two recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 73 cases (63 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 47 cases (One active, 41 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 11 cases (Three active, eight recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: Two Cases (Both recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 25 cases (One active, 24 recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 12 cases (Seven active, five recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 222 cases (46 active, 170 recovered, six deaths)

There were three more deaths linked to COVID-19 between Friday and Sunday, including one in the Mackenzie County area. There have been 224 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Alberta, with six of those coming in Mackenzie County.

Hospitalizations sit at 45 for the end of day Sunday in Alberta, with 10 of those people admitted to hospital in ICU. In the North Zone, six people are hospitalized with two of those people in intensive care.

With over 28,000 tests processed over the weekend, there have now been 829,622 tests processed since March on 672,138 Albertans. In northern Alberta, 56,907 people have been tested, an increase of 1,801 since Thursday.
