Nitehawk ski hill chairlift to remain closed for season following May landslide

Aug 18, 2020 | 3:16 PM

Nitehawk Year-Round Adventure Park says that its chairlift on the ski hill will remain closed for the entirety of the 2020-21 skiing season.

Back on May 19, a section of the ski hill was damaged because of a landslide that caused significant damage to the hill.

The landslide was powerful enough to move the chairlift towers down the hill.

Nitehawk says that they’re continuing to work with Parkland Geotechnical Ltd to acquire soil samples and determine ground water levels so they can develop a long-term solution to stabilize the area and return it to full operation by the 2021-22 skiing season.

“Things will look different in many regards this season, including modified service at the restaurant and adaptations due to the current pandemic,” explained Johnathan Clarkson, the General Manager at Nitehawk. “We will do everything in our power to ensure our guests and partner groups continue to have a great time here.”

While the chairlift will remain closed for 2020-21, all of the other lifts and other areas at the hill will remain open for public use.

Currently, Nitehawk has established a Landslide Recovery Fund to assist with the costs of rehabilitation for the ski hill.
