Aug 20, 2020 | 11:47 AM

Two suspected drug dealers from Edmonton were arrested in Grande Prairie on Friday, August 14, following an ALERT investigation which led to the seizure of one firearm and an estimated $80,000 worth of drugs and cash.

Grande Prairie RCMP helped with the investigation, which included a search of three different homes in the city.

ALERT seized the following items:

  • A shotgun and ammunition.
  • 703 grams of cocaine.
  • 57 grams of a cocaine buffing agent.
  • 78 illicit prescription pills.
  • $8,250 cash.

During the arrest, ALERT says that one of the suspects attempted to flee and rammed a police vehicle before coming to a stop.

Nobody was injured and the suspect was arrested without further incident.

Thirty-one-year-old Ayanle Dahir and 29-year-old Ahmed Safadi are both charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds of crime.

“ALERT believes these suspects were operating a drug network in the region, which included transporting drugs from Edmonton,” said Insp. Sean Boser, ALERT Regional teams. “Sharing intelligence, and leveraging our specialized enforcement teams in both regions, allowed ALERT to put an end to their drug trafficking activities.”

Firearms charges are pending against a third suspect who has yet to be named.
