Man arrested near Fox Creek following string of break-ins

Back on August 3, a Polaris side-by-side was stolen from a residence in Fox Creek, which in the days that followed, RCMP allege was used in a string of break and enters and vehicle thefts around the community.

On August 16, RCMP used quads and patrolled an area in the region after receiving tips from the public. Mounties were able to locate the vehicle along with the driver on an abandoned lease site near Fox Creek.

The stolen items found at the location included a Dodge Ram truck, a flat bed trailer, stolen identification cards as well as numerous other items.

RCMP also obtained four cans of bear spray, over seven grams of methamphetamine and over two grams of heroin.

Mounties have now charged 37-year-old Matthew Duffy with the following:

  • Five counts of possession of stolen property.
  • Proceeds of crime.
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (Heroin).
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (Methamphetamine).
  • Fail to comply with probation.
  • Fail to comply with release order.
  • Flight from peace officer.
  • Obstruction.
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Duffy was arrested on scene and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on August 24.
