“WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING OUR PATIENTS”

Red Deer clinic, site of doctor’s murder, to reopen Saturday

Aug 20, 2020 | 1:19 PM

A medical clinic in north Red Deer is set to reopen nearly two weeks after the tragic and shocking death of one of its founding physicians.

Dr. Walter Reynolds died after he was attacked by an armed man while working at the Village Mall Walk-In Clinic on the morning of Monday, Aug. 10.

Since then the clinic has been closed as part of the police investigation and then for staff members to grieve the loss of their friend and co-worker. Staff are thanking the community for their support during this difficult time.

The clinic will reopen this Saturday, Aug. 22 and will be open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Regular daily hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. will resume starting Monday, Aug. 24.

“We look forward to seeing our patients back in our clinic,” they say in a statement.

Nearly 2,000 people turned out for a vigil in honour of Dr. Reynolds last Friday evening at City Hall Park.

Deng Mabiour, 54, is charged with first-degree murder, assault with a weapon and assault of a police officer in relation to his death and is due back in court on Sept. 9.
