Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Grande Prairie area

Aug 21, 2020 | 1:50 PM

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Grande Prairie area Friday.

The watch includes the Beaverlodge and Valleyview areas, as well as the Peace River-Fairview-High Prairie-Manning area and Fox Creek and Whitecourt.

The weather office says conditions are favourable to see severe thunderstorms develop later this afternoon and evening, which could produce strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

“Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes,” says Environment Canada.
