County of Grande Prairie launches survey for library improvements

Aug 22, 2020 | 5:30 AM

The County of Grande Prairie’s library board is launching a survey to help county residents give feedback for improving future and current libraries in the region.

The survey runs from August 24 until September 13 and is open to residents that use the library often, or those who don’t use the facilities at all.

While libraries are slow because of COVID-19, Karen Rosvold, the Chair for the County of Grande Prairie Library Board, says they’re using this opportunity to hear from the local communities.

“We are trying to find out what our residents are looking for going forward. We need to have our libraries grow, but we need to be cognizant of the fact that we are rural and see what the needs are in the community.”

Rosvold mentioned that the County usually completes a plan of service every couple of years to gain feedback regarding what they should improve in their libraries.

She says they’ve added and changed things in their libraries as a result of the public’s feedback.

“We’ve got more kids activities, we’ve got a bit more of the online resources, as well as opportunities for some of our lower income members that can come in and use our computers at the libraries.”

“In the past there used to be membership fees, and now we don’t even have a membership fee, you get your card free of charge.”

The County of Grande Prairie’s Library Board operates the libraries in Elmworth, La Glace and Valhalla. The board also provides funding to libraries in Beaverlodge, Grande Prairie, Hythe, Sexsmith, and Wembley.

Those interested in filling out the survey can do it at the County of Grande Prairie’s website.

Results from the survey will help guide operations for the libraries in 2021.
