Three new COVID-19 cases, three recoveries in City of Grande Prairie

The City of Grande Prairie added three new COVID-19 cases for the end of day Monday, while also posting three recoveries to keep its active case total at 26 as of August 24.

Alberta Health has also identified a second outbreak site in Grande Prairie, that being the Heritage Lodge. Alberta Health tells EverythingGP that there are three active cases linked to the facility (two staff and one resident). The other outbreak site in the Swan City, a group residence operated by Signature Support Services, now has 11 active cases to go with one death linked to COVID-19.

The change in case numbers comes as the province added 77 new cases for Tuesday’s update. Active cases in the province dropped to 1,134, as there were 114 recoveries reported for Monday, bringing that total to 11,714 in Alberta.

One of those recoveries was identified in the County of Grande Prairie area, dropping its active case total to 14, while Birch Hills County also saw a recovery to drop its active case load to zero.

Updated case numbers among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day August 24 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 74 cases (26 active, 46 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 43 cases (14 active, 29 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Ten cases (Two active, seven recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 73 cases (63 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 47 cases (42 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 12 cases (Five active, seven recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: Two Cases (Both recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 35 cases (Ten active, 25 recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Six cases (Two active, four recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 17 cases (Ten active, seven recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 260 cases (49 active, 203 recovered, eight deaths)

There was one more death linked to COVID-19 in Alberta, bringing the provincial death toll to 235 as of August 24.

Hospitalizations went up by one in Alberta to 46, with seven of those individuals in ICU. There are nine people in hospital in the North Zone, with one of those people in intensive care.

Tuesday’s rise in cases comes on the back of 8,440 tests being completed on Monday at the provincial lab. There have now been 903,052 tests completed on 723,302 people. In the North Zone, 62,151 people have been tested, an increase of 985 for Monday.
