Police seize drugs, vehicles following search of Grande Prairie home

A search of a Grande Prairie home by the Western Alberta District RCMP Rural Crime Reduction Unit earlier this month has turned up drugs, cash and several vehicles as proceeds of crime.

As part of an ongoing investigation, police executed a search warrant at the home in the area of 96 Avenue and 102 Street in Grande Prairie on August 13. Authorities say the following items were seized during the search:

  • 285 grams of methamphetamine
  • 163 grams of cocaine
  • 2.5 litres of GHB
  • A loaded .357 handgun
  • As proceeds of crime: a 2005 Chevrolet pick-up truck, 2012 BMW Alpina B7, 2009 Lincoln Navigator SUV, 2018 Mazda 3, a 2007 Forest River fifth wheel trailer and a large sum of cash.

Grande Prairie residents, 37-year-old Matthew James Bergeson and 25-year-old Taylor Marie Leslie, are both charged with:

  • Two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine and cocaine
  • Possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000
  • Possession of a firearm without being a holder of a license
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon knowing not a holder of a license
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited firearm without a license

Bergeson is facing additional charges, including 12 counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited by an order, four counts of operating a conveyance and failing to comply with condition of release, among others.

Bergeson has been remanded into custody following a judicial hearing to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on September 2. Leslie has been released from custody to also appear in court September 2.
