No new COVID-19 cases in City of Grande Prairie, one new in County

Alberta Health reported no new COVID-19 cases in the City of Grande Prairie for August 27, while there was one new case reported in both the County of Grande Prairie and MD of Greenview.

There were also three more recoveries in the Swan City to drop its active case total to 24. The new case in the County brings its active case total to 15, which puts that area one active case away from falling under a provincial health “watch”.

A provincial health watch occurs when a region’s active case load surpasses 50 per 100,000 people.

“The province is monitoring the risk and discussing with local government(s) and other community leaders the possible need for additional health measures,” explains Alberta Health, of when a provincial “watch” is put in place.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day August 27 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 78 cases (24 active, 52 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 43 cases (15 active, 29 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 12 cases (Four active, seven recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 74 cases (One active, 63 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 49 cases (One active, 43 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 12 cases (One active, 11 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: Two Cases (Both recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 39 cases (14 active, 25 recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Six cases (All recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 18 cases (Seven active, 11 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 282 cases (60 active, 213 recovered, nine deaths)

On the back of over 10,000 tests being completed on Thursday, there were 158 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Alberta. Active cases increased to 1,185 as of Thursday, while recoveries increased by 131 to 12,054.

No fatalities linked to COVID-19 were reported for Thursday, keeping the death toll in Alberta at 237. Twenty-eight of those deaths have been recorded in northern Alberta.

Hospitalizations in the province dropped to 44 as of the end of day Thursday, while there are seven people in ICU. In the North Zone, 10 people are in hospital with one of those in intensive care.

A total of 933,365 tests have now been processed at the provincial lab on 744,053 people. In the North Zone, 64,689 people have been tested, an increase of 1,272 on Thursday.
