Uniformed first responders lined 100 Street outside Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie Tuesday afternoon to honour one of their own.

Nearly 100 first responders and their spouses waited outside the funeral home on September 1 as a service was held for Greg and Cindy Hickok, who passed away on August 15. Greg was a firefighter with the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service since 2011, after serving many years as a volunteer with the Fairview Fire Department.

“Greg served honourably, put others first, and was always someone that could be counted on,” reads a statement from the Alberta Fire Chiefs Association.

“Cindy was an important part of the fire family and was a frequent presence in the fire station during C-Platoon holiday dinners, Mother’s Day breakfasts, and other special events.”

The County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service and Fairview Fire Department provided the honour guard following the service.
