Sep 20, 2020 | 10:59 AM

An arrest has been made in the death of a 30 year old man, who’s body was located in a fire in Widewater in May of 2019.

As crews were putting out a house fire in the small hamlet west of Slave Lake, they discovered the body of Darren Dawson.

An autopsy was performed where it was determined that his death was a homicide.

The subsequent investigation led RCMP to arrest 24 year old Matthew Perry.

He is charged with second degree murder, arson, and causing an indignity to a body.

Police allege the arson charge is in relation to the homicide.

Perry, who was already in custody at the Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre for unrelated charges at the time of this arrest, is slated to appear in Slave Lake provincial court on Wednesday.
