Alberta adds 358 new COVID-19 cases over weekend, Grande Prairie down to seven active cases

Alberta reported 358 new cases of COVID-19 from September 18-20. There are now 1,459 active cases in the province, a slight uptick from the 1,424 cases reported on Friday.

Of the new cases, 119 were reported on Sept. 18, 102 on Sept. 19 and 137 on Sept. 20.

The City of Grande Prairie added one new case over the weekend, but also saw three recoveries.That leaves the city at seven active cases.

Two more cases were added in the County of Grande Prairie, and two more recovered. The County remains at six active cases.

Elsewhere, Clear Hills County added no new cases of COVID-19, while the County of Northern Lights added one.

The numbers for the Peace Country through September 20 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 98 cases (seven actives, 89 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 54 cases (six actives, 48 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 15 cases (three actives, 11 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 11 cases (one active, nine recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 74 cases (zero actives, 64 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 48 cases (zero actives, 43 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 14 cases (two actives, 11 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 25 cases (six actives, 19 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 16 cases (zero actives, 16 recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 87 cases (nine actives, 77 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Nine cases (three actives, six recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 54 cases (25 actives, 29 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: One case (zero actives, one recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 388 cases (43 actives, 333 recovered, 12 deaths)

Across the province, hospitalizations jumped up from 44 on Friday to 51 on Monday. The number of patients in an Intensive Care Unit grew by two from seven to nine.

In the North Zone, seven people remain in hospital, none of them are in an ICU.

Two schools across the province have also been added under the provinces “watch list”.

Schools under the province’s watch list include St. Wilfrid Elementary School in Calgary and Vimy Ridge Junior High and High School in Edmonton.

Each of these schools have five or more students who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Over the weekend, the province completed 34,959 COVID-19 tests.
