Services still available after Grande Prairie MS Society office closes

Sep 27, 2020 | 6:00 AM

Pandemic uncertainty combined with an expiring lease means the MS Society office in Grande Prairie is closed permanently.

South Peace Chapter coordinator Carla Holton says while the office is closed, the Society is still operating in the community.

“I’m working from home, just as all of my colleagues are across the country during this pandemic. Our primary concern is ensuring that the donors and supporters that entrust us to maximize funds for mission-related purposes, (that) we’re taking that into consideration and looking at costs across the board.”

Holton says clients are still glad to have someone working to support them, adding that she is a phone call away, something that is important to those clients.

She adds clients who used to connect through the office have found other ways to do this.

“We have a wellness course that is being held on Zoom and then we have some virtual support groups, so people connect that way. It would be great to meet in person, but just being careful and mindful of our health safety of our MS community is of the foremost (concern), right?”

Holton says when the pandemic ends, they will be able to rent rooms for events and support groups again. She adds having an office again is still to be determined.
