Active COVID-19 cases hold firm in Grande Prairie area

Alberta added 173 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, as there was one new case added in the County of Grande Prairie for September 30.

The new case in the County was joined with one new recovery, keeping the active caseload there at seven. There was no change in the City of Grande Prairie’s case totals for Wednesday.

Updated case numbers among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day September 30 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 101 cases (six active, 93 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 61 cases (seven active, 54 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 16 cases (one active, 14 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Three cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 11 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: One case (recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 74 cases (64 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 48 cases (43 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 17 cases (two actives, 14 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 25 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 16 cases (all recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 89 cases (two actives, 86 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Nine cases (two actives, seven recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 55 cases (One active, 54 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 413 cases (11 active, 389 recovered, 13 deaths)

Active cases in Alberta went up to 1,596 on Wednesday, while recoveries sit at 16,370. Two more deaths were recorded that are linked to COVID-19, bringing the provincial death toll to 269 as of September 30.

Hospitalizations held at 64 for Wednesday, while ICU admissions sat at 12 in Alberta. In the North Zone, seven people are hospitalized and no one is in an ICU with COVID-19.

Thursday’s increase in case numbers comes as the provincial lab processed over 14,600 tests on Wednesday, bringing Alberta’s testing total to 1,365,496 on 1,030,261 Albertans. In the North Zone, 100,387 people have been tested, an increase of 1,077 from the day prior.
