Man wanted in Grande Prairie arrested outside Edmonton

A man wanted for warrants out of Grande Prairie, St. Albert and Barrhead was arrested in Acheson on Tuesday morning, following reports of a man in possession of a loaded shotgun.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on September 29, Parkland RCMP officers attended the Glowing Embers Park, the last known location of the male who was known by police to have multiple warrants for his arrest that include fleeing from police and dangerous driving.

With the assistance of the Enoch RCMP, RCMP Police Dog Services and Edmonton Police Services’ Air 1, the suspect was located and arrested. During the arrest, mounties recovered a loaded shotgun, 14.7 grams of methamphetamine, and various stolen items.

While in police custody, the suspect also damaged a police vehicle.

Wade Sperling, a 28 year-old male from Barrhead, was charged with:

  • Unlawful possession of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Unsafe Storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm while prohibited
  • Resisting arrest
  • Mischief
  • Three counts of unlawful possession of identity documents
  • Possession of a controlled substance

Sperling was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to appear at Stony Plain Provincial Court on Wednesday, October 7.
