COVID-19 UPDATE

Two new COVID-19 cases added in City of Grande Prairie, 122 in Alberta

Oct 2, 2020 | 3:49 PM

There were two new cases of COVID-19 identified in the City of Grande Prairie on Thursday, as the provincial lab confirmed 122 new cases across Alberta.

The two new cases in the City go along with one more recovery, putting the active case total in the Swan City to seven as of the end of day October 1. There was also one more recovered case in the County of Grande Prairie, where there are now six active cases.

Alberta Health also relisted Prairie Lakes Seniors Community in Grande Prairie as an outbreak site on Friday, after removing it for Tuesday’s update. Tom McMillan with Alberta Health says there is currently one active case at the facility, while there is one recovered case, therefore it does meet the threshold to be considered an outbreak site.

“Locations of outbreaks in acute care and continuing care facilities are reported publicly when there are two or more cases, indicating that a transmission within the facility has occurred,” explains Alberta Health.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day October 1 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 103 cases (seven actives, 94 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 61 cases (six actives, 55 recovered)

Active cases declined in Alberta to 1,558, while there are now 16,527 cases considered recovered. There were three more fatalities recorded for Thursday related to COVID-19, bringing the death toll in the province to 272.

Hospitalizations held again at 64, while ICU admissions increased to 15. In the North Zone, there are seven people in hospital with COVID-19, none of whom are in intensive care.

Thursday’s increase in cases comes after 13,379 tests were processed at the provincial lab.
