Alberta adds 276 new COVID-19 cases Monday, four new in Grande Prairie

Alberta added over 200 new cases of COVID-19 for a third straight day, while the City of Grande Prairie added four more cases for October 5.

The Swan City now has 19 active cases as of the end of day Monday, while one more recovery was reported in the County of Grande Prairie, bringing its active case load to three.

Though there have been 12 new cases reported in Grande Prairie between Friday and Monday, Tom McMillan with Alberta Health tells EverythingGP none of the new cases are linked to the Prairie Lakes Seniors Community, which is listed on the province’s outbreak sites list. There remains one active case to go along with one recovered case at the facility.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day October 5 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 115 cases (19 active, 94 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 63 cases (three active, 60 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 16 cases (one active, 14 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Three cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 11 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: Two cases (one active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 74 cases (one active, 63 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 48 cases (43 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 18 cases (three active, 14 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 26 cases (two active, 24 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 16 cases (all recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 89 cases (two active, 86 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Nine cases (all recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 55 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 414 cases (eight active, 393 recovered, 13 deaths)

Active cases jumped to 1,900 in Alberta on Monday, while recovered cases sit at 17,030 (88.6% of all cases). There was one more death linked to COVID-19 on Monday in the province, bringing the death toll to 281 in Alberta (1.4% of all reported cases).

Hospitalizations dropped slightly to 61 for the end of day Monday in Alberta, with 13 of those individuals in intensive care. In the North Zone, four people are in hospital with no one in an ICU due to COVID-19.

The increase in cases in the province comes as 17,654 tests were processed on Monday at the provincial lab.
