Make it three players with Grande Prairie Minor Hockey ties to be selected in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

Swan City-born goaltender Garin Bjorklund was selected in the sixth round, 179th overall by the Washington Capitals.

Bjorklund follows defencemen Kaiden Guhle (16th overall to Montreal) and Ethan Edwards (120th overall to New Jersey) as the third Grande Prairie Minor Hockey player to be selected in the 2020 Draft.

The 6’2” Bjorklund spent this past season with the WHL’s Medicine Hat Tigers, where he posted a 2.91 goals against average and .897 save percentage in 28 games.

Prior to his time in the Western Hockey league, Bjorklund played for the Grande Peace U15 AAA Storm in 2015-16, before moving his hockey career down to Calgary.

Bjorklund started playing in Grande Prairie Minor Hockey at the Initiation level in 2007-2008, on the same Anodyne Chiropractic team as fellow 2020 draftee Ethan Edwards. His last year in the Grande Prairie system was 2015-16 with the GPAC AAA Storm.
