Kleskun Creek fire under control; crews actioning hot spots

Oct 7, 2020 | 4:55 PM

County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Services continues to work on the Kleskun Creek wildland fire that was spotted on Tuesday.

The fire was reported east of Teepee Creek, near Range Road 31. The area of the blaze is a remote site, which Deputy Fire Chief Bart Johnson says is extremely difficult to access. To get there, crews are flown in by helicopter, then been hiking to the site.

Firefighters from the Teepee Creek, Sexsmith, Bezanson and Dunes stations, as well as the Wembley Fire Department and Alberta Wildfire, have brought the blaze under control and are continuing to action any hot spots that remain.

Regional Fire Services says it will be actively working on the fire for the remainder of Wednesday and into Thursday to get it fully extinguished. They ask residents to remain clear of the area.
