High Prairie RCMP seek information on man wanted for flight of police, outstanding warrants

Oct 9, 2020 | 11:40 AM

The RCMP in High Prairie is asking anyone with information on the location of a man wanted for fleeing police, as well as on several outstanding warrants, to report it to the police.

The flight from police incident occurred on Friday, September 18, when the High Prairie RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle being driven by Shian Wells, who was known to be wanted on outstanding warrants.

The 24-year-old Wells failed to stop, and as a pursuit was deemed not to be safe, the wanted man escaped heading north of High Prairie.

The vehicle was later discovered on a dead-end dirt road, and when police attempted a high-risk traffic stop, Wells put the car in reverse and hit a police vehicle, causing minor injuries to an officer.

Officers pursued the vehicle for a time, but as it was deemed unsafe for the public, the chase ended. Several extensive patrols were made but Wells was not located.

Shian Brightin Wells of Grouard Alberta now faces additional charges as result of the September 18 incidents that include:

  • Flight from police
  • Operate a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public
  • Operate a conveyance involved in an accident and fail to stop and offer assistance
  • Two counts of Assault Police with a weapon
  • Two counts of Fail to comply with release order
  • Fail to comply with Undertaking

Despite ongoing efforts by the RCMP, Wells has not been located, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Wells has been known to frequent the communities of High Prairie, Barrhead, Grouard, Gift Lake and Westlock.

Wells is described as a Metis man with brown eyes and hair, standing 5’11” tall and weighing 170 lbs. He also has several tattoos on his face, including a Batman symbol under his left eye.

High Prairie RCMP warn that Wells may be dangerous, and ask that no one approach him directly.

Ayyone with information on Wells’ whereabouts is asked to call 911, the High Prairie RCMP at 780-723-3370, or the local police. Anonymous reports can also be made through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
