Active COVID-19 cases increase by one in Grande Prairie

Five new COVID-19 cases and four more recoveries are being reported by Alberta Health in the City of Grande Prairie for Wednesday, October 14, as the province saw 244 new cases.

The change in case numbers means there are now 44 active cases of COVID-19 in the Swan City. No new cases were identified in the County of Grande Prairie or the MD of Greenview areas for Wednesday.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day October 14 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 153 cases (44 active, 107 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 67 cases (five active, 62 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 17 cases (one active, 15 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Five cases (two active, three recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 15 cases (four active, 11 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: Three cases (one active, two recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 75 cases (two active, 63 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 52 cases (five active, 42 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 18 cases (17 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 28 cases (three active, 25 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 16 cases (all recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 93 cases (three active, 89 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Nine cases (all recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 58 cases (two active, 56 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 414 cases (six active, 395 recovered, 13 deaths)

Active cases increased to 2,738 in Alberta for October 14, while there are 18,417 cases considered recovered. There are now 288 deaths reported in Alberta that are linked to COVID-19, as there was one more reported on Wednesday.

Edmonton and Calgary continue to house the majority of hospitalizations in the province, as 89 of the 101 people in hospital due to COVID-19 are in Alberta’s two major cities (49 in Edmonton and 40 in Calgary). Sixteen of the patients are in an ICU, 14 of whom are in Edmonton or Calgary.

In the North Zone, there are five people in hospital and two in an ICU.

The increase in cases comes as 12,721 tests were processed at the provincial lab. A total of 112,799 people from the North Zone have been tested, an increase of 413 from the day prior.
