AHS’ mobile mammography unit heading to Valleyview, Sturgeon Lake and Fox Creek

Alberta Health Services’ mobile mammography unit will be making stops in Valleyview, Sturgeon Lake and Fox Creek in November, as part of AHS’ Screen Test program.

The unit will be stationed at the Valleyview Health Centre and available for appointments on November 12, 13, 16 and 17, at the Sturgeon Lake health Centre on November 18 and 19, followed by the Fox Creek Health Care Centre on November 20 and 21.

Appointments will be open to women aged 50-74 to get a breast cancer screening test, the age group AHS says is most at-risk of developing breast cancer.

“A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast and has proven to be the most effective way to detect breast cancer,” reads a release from AHS. “Early detection allows for a greater number of options for treatment and a better chance of survival.”
