County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Services, along with crews from the Grovedale and Wembley Fire Departments and members of the RCMP, responded to the Smokey River on Tuesday, near where it meets the Wapiti River, as they rescued stranded boaters.

The County issued a public safety announcement on social media Tuesday afternoon, reminding boaters to stay off the river when weather conditions worsen ice conditions.

The County says four men from two different boats were rescued from the river on Tuesday.
