Outbreak Update

Twelve Grande Prairie RCMP members test positive for COVID-19

The number of cases of COVID-19 linked to the RCMP detachment in Grande Prairie has grown, while the outbreak linked to the Walmart Supercentre in the Swan City has gone down to two active cases.

Corporal Deena Fontaine tells EverythingGP that there have now been 12 members of the detachment that have tested positive for COVID-19, after it was announced two members of the detachment had tested positive on Thursday.

Fontaine says all infected members are isolating at home, and there is no impact to community policing because of the positive tests.

It was announced over the weekend that after a deep clean of the detachment, front counter services at the detachment were to reopen to the public on Monday, October 19.

Though the detachment has not been listed by Alberta Health as an outbreak site, Tom McMillan with Alberta Health says Alberta Health Services is investigating, and will update the site later in the week should it be deemed to be the site of an outbreak.

As for the outbreak at the Walmart in Grande Prairie, McMillan says there are two active cases, with nine other cases linked to the store having recovered.

A spokesperson from Walmart Canada told EverythingGP back on October 14 that 12 associates had tested positive for COVID-19, though McMillan said there were only 11 cases associated with the outbreak as of Monday.
