Twelve new COVID-19 cases in Grande Prairie, ten more recoveries

There were twelve new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday in the City of Grande Prairie, while the province added 427 new cases.

The City’s new cases come as there were 10 more recoveries, bringing the active case total in the City to 59. There were two new cases identified in the County of Grande Prairie, where there are now eight active cases.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day October 21 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 197 cases (59 active, 136 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 74 cases (eight active, 66 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 19 cases (three active, 15 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Five cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 26 cases (13 active, 13 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: Three cases (one active, two recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 75 cases (65 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 52 cases (two active, 45 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 19 cases (one active, 17 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 29 cases (one active, 28 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 16 cases (all recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 94 cases (three active, 90 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Nine cases (all recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 58 cases (one active, 57 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 413 cases (six active, 394 recovered, 13 deaths)

The positivity rate of Wednesday’s new cases was 2.9 per cent in the province, as 14,304 tests were processed. A total of 117,335 people from northern Alberta have been tested as of October 21, an increase of 1,189 over the last two days.

There are now 3,519 active cases in the province, 198 of which are in northern Alberta. Over 20,000 people have now recovered in the province, while no additional deaths were linked to COVID-19 on Wednesday, keeping the total at 296.

Hospitalizations remain low in the North Zone, with four people in hospital, two of whom are in intensive care. There are 112 people in hospital in Alberta with COVID-19, most of whom are in Edmonton and Calgary. Eighteen of those in hospital are in an ICU.
