Alberta Agriculture has released it’s final crop report for 2020, which shows that nearly all of the Peace Region’s crop has been put in the bin ahead of the winter season.

The report, dated October 20, states that 98.7 per cent of the Peace Country crop had been combined by that date. That is well ahead of the five-year average of 72.7 per cent and the 10-year average of 75.3 per cent.

The report says 100 per cent of the peas, 99.1 per cent of the barley, 99 per cent of the spring wheat, 98.6 per cent of the canola, and 99 per cent of the oats had been combined.

The Alberta average was also 98.7 per cent for the year, ahead of the five-year average of 77.3 per cent and the ten year average of 84.5 per cent.

However, the Agriculture Ministry says yields are below the five and 10-year provincial averages, with the exception of oats.

Oats came in at 84.2 bushels per acre. Spring wheat averaged 40.6 bushels, barley 52.9 bushels, canola 32.3 bushels, while peas are averaged 35.3 bushels per acre.

Alberta Agriculture also states that surface soil moisture is rated 81 per cent good or excellent in the Peace Region, with one per cent excessive. Sub-surface moisture is rated 80 per cent good or excellent, with one per cent excessive.
