COVID-19 outbreak linked to Grande Prairie church

Oct 30, 2020 | 4:36 PM

An outbreak of COVID-19 has been linked to a church in Grande Prairie.

Tom McMillan with Alberta Health tells EverythingGP that an outbreak is tied to the Victory Church on the Rock, where there have been 15 cases linked to the facility as of October 29. McMillan says 11 of those cases are active.

Though he could not specify when the first case was reported at the church, McMillan says the outbreak was officially confirmed on Wednesday, October 28.

In a video update posted October 19 on the church’s Facebook page, Pastor Charlotte Quist said the church was moving its services online for a two week period in response to three individuals with ties to the church testing positive.

There remain two other outbreak sites listed in the City of Grande Prairie, including the Walmart Supercentre and the RCMP detachment.

McMillan says all 11 cases linked to Walmart have recovered, while there remain three active cases linked to the RCMP detachment, along with 12 recoveries.
