Whispering Ridge Community School temporarily closed following new COVID-19 cases

As more cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at Whispering Ridge Community School (WRCS), the Peace Wapiti Public School Division says the school will be closed to in-school classes for the rest of the week, with in-school classes expected to resume on Monday, November 9.

The division says there were two more cases reported at both WRCS and Peace Wapiti Academy (PWA) between Friday and Sunday, which are now both considered sites of school outbreaks by Alberta Health. An outbreak is declared by the provincial health authority when there are two or more confirmed cases in a school within a 14 day period.

However, because of the number of close contacts that have been identified at WRCS, they will be moving to remote-based learning for at least a week.

“Out of an abundance of caution and lack of available staff, Alberta Education has granted PWPSD permission to authorize a short-term operational shift to at-home remote learning for WRCS for the remainder of this week, Tuesday, November 3 to Friday, November 6,” said the division, in a release.

In-school learning will continue at PWA for all students not identified as a close contact.

The division adds that both schools were disinfected over the weekend.

“PWPSD, PWA and WRCS wish the individuals a safe and speedy recovery, and will continue to work closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff.”
