ACAC announces cancellation of winter sports season

Nov 4, 2020 | 12:16 PM

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) has announced that it has cancelled the 2021 extended winter semester season of athletics.

In a statement from the ACAC, the organization says that the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Alberta has caused the majority of ACAC member institutions to extend online academic program delivery into the 2021.

As a result, they add that the decision to cancel the season was made in the interests of protecting the health and safety of students and the broader community.

Back on June 19, the ACAC had announced the cancellation of their fall sports schedule, with the hope that sports would be able to resume in January 2021.

The President of GPRC, Dr. Robert Murray, released the following statement regarding the ACAC’s decision saying, “GPRC supports the decision made by the ACAC to suspend athletics as our College continues to prioritize the health of our student-athletes, coaches, administration and fans. The wellbeing of our GPRC Wolves community is vital as we work to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
